Boyfriends with Girlfriends by Alex Sanchez

Boyfriends with Girlfriends by Alex Sanchez
Simon & Schuster, April 19, 2011

Summary from Goodreads:

Lance has always known he was gay, but he's never had a real boyfriend. Sergio is bisexual, but his only real relationship was with a girl. When the two of them meet, they have an instant connection--but will it be enough to overcome their differences?
Allie's been in a relationship with a guy for the last two years--but when she meets Kimiko, she can't get her out of her mind. Does this mean she's gay? Does it mean she's bi? Kimiko, falling hard for Allie, and finding it impossible to believe that a gorgeous girl like Allie would be into her, is willing to stick around and help Allie figure it out.
Boyfriends with Girlfriends is Alex Sanchez at his best, writing with a sensitive hand to portray four very real teens striving to find their places in the world--and with each other.
I enjoyed this story. This is the first book I've read by Alex Sanchez, and I'm glad I did. Originally I selected this eGalley because I was updated the LGBT book list at the library. There have been so many incredible new books recently that our older list was in serious need of updating. You'll be happy to know that Boyfriends with Girlfriends made it onto the list!

What I loved about these characters is that they are all so set in their convictions--at first. Lance, who's known he was gay for years, thinks that bisexuality is a cop-out, and his best friend Allie has always thought herself straight, even though her current long-term relationship leaves a lot to be desired. Sergio, on the other hand, knows he's bisexual, although his only relationship has been with a girl, and his best friend, Kimiko, is an out and proud (although not to her family) lesbian. When the two pairs meet, all four must re-evaluate everything they've ever believed.

All four characters are realistic--not without faults, but definitely good people all around. You'll find yourself rooting for a happy ending with this story!

Received eGalley from publisher.

Enjoy your reading!
